This is airport country. Rockaway Boulevard and the roads feeding North Conduit carry freight traffic to JFK all day, and heavy trucks running on patched asphalt are the most reliable chip generator in south Queens. The elevated A structure over Liberty Avenue drops debris the same way the LIRR viaduct does on Atlantic. Add the salt haul during winter and the metal plates that sit over street work for months at a time on Cross Bay Boulevard, and glass here takes a beating from below as well as above, and a chip that survives October rarely survives the first hard freeze. Head north on Woodhaven Boulevard or take 111th Street up from Liberty Avenue, then turn onto Atlantic and look for the 114th Street corner. From the Cross Bay side, Woodhaven Boulevard runs straight into it. Coming from the Rockaway Boulevard end, 108th or 111th Street north is the least congested route. Nearly every version of the trip is under ten minutes outside rush hour.
